Sociology Department and ASEN Edinburgh are organising a Master class for PG students and staff:
Why Nationalism
Speakers:
John A. Hall is the James McGill Professor of Comparative Historical Sociology at McGill University, Montreal.
James Kennedy is Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Director of the Centre of Canadian Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
The master class will focus on a single book, Yael Tamir’s Why Nationalism. The master class revolves around the core theme of the book – why nationalism is a permanent political force—and how it can be harnessed once again for liberal ends.
This will be an informal and friendly event and a wonderful opportunity for those doing research in the field of nationalism, ethnicity and identity.
Participants are expected to read Tamir’s book Why Nationalism beforehand to prepare for the master class. The electronic version of the book can be accessed here.
Places are limited! Please do commit to attending the master class should you sign up.
The event will be followed by lunch.
